Neurodiversity-affirming Personal Development for Autistics by Autistics

April 2024

As I am writing this, we are in Autism Acceptance Month (again), and maybe you (like many Autistics) aren't feeling all that accepting of your own autistic self.

Look, I’ve been there.

Trying to make yourself fit into the world that just seems all mixed up.

It’s frustrating, right?

And that’s where most people give up.

Without creating a life that you want to live in, using your own standards!

And that’s where most end their writing career.

Without creating a life that you want to live in, using your own standards!

Are you ready to step forward into your authentic self and create a life that you don’t need a vacation from?

Much like inclusion, thriving is not a destination.

Self-Defined Living is about creating a customized path to a quality autistic life for you and creating the habits that fortify your focus and keep you aligned with your authentic self. Together, we will tackle how to move from surviving to thriving in small, actionable steps while also defining for yourself what your life should look like. Through a candid, private self-assessment, you will begin to understand that your wants, needs, and preferences are not just valid but also attainable.

You won’t know the moment you arrive, and the bus doesn’t stop there either. Quite simply, one day you will be following all that you have learned in this course, and you will notice yourself smiling from the inside. That is thriving, and this unit you discover that thriving is an action word. If you want to keep this thriving life of your creation, it’s going to take some maintenance. Unit 3 is chock full of what it takes to stay on your path, how to sustain your pace, and why it’s important to recover with grace from the inevitable curves in the road. Your final lesson is all about the act of thriving.

Here’s How This Works:

  • As soon as you sign up, I'll unlock access to our step-by-step training to create a live you don't need a vacation from as an Autistic adult.
  • We'll meet every Thursday at 4pm ET and review your progress in the training. During this session, I will answer any questions or address your stuck spots so you can customize and create your new burn-out free, low-demand life.
  • After you've applied the strategies, you'll share your experiences and progress and we'll provide personalized feedback to review your journey and plan future steps for living a fulfilling and fabulous Autistic life.

As you begin your path to a Quality Autistic Life, please remember, every step counts. Yes, even the small ones, like registering for this course.

FAQ

What exactly will I learn in the training?

In the training, you will learn about embracing and navigating life as an Autistic person. The course focuses on understanding the autistic experience, providing practical strategies for daily living, and enhancing communication. It offers insights into managing sensory sensitivities, fostering emotional regulation, and creating a supportive environment for autistic individuals. The training aims to empower you with both the knowledge for how to create a self-defined, fulfilling life that you don't need a vacation from, plus the time and a safe-space to apply that knowledge.

How can I benefit from the live Zoom calls?

The live Zoom calls are totally optional. You will get all the training in videos, worksheets, and transcripts that you can review at your own pace. The weekly calls provide you with the unique opportunity to ask specific questions, receive personalized advice, and interact with other Autistic people. This direct access to experts ensures you receive guidance tailored to your individual challenges and goals, greatly enhancing your learning experience and progress.

Is this program only for "high-functioning" or "Level-1" Autistics?

Functioning labels and levels hard ALL Autistic people and help no one. If you are Autistic you will experience a spectrum of traits and those experiences will change throughout your life and sometimes throughout the day. This program is for all Autistic people and if you do the work in the course you will start to shape a life that doesn't make you quite so tired and miserable.

Can you make accommodations for my situation?

Our goal is to make this program as accessible as possible. In many cases we can make adjustments to suit your needs, but in some cases it isn't possible. Feel free to email us to check if your needs can be accommodated.

Is this program suitable for someone who has self-diagnosed?

YES! Our program is designed to support Autistic people no matter where they are in the diagnosis or identification process, including those with have self-diagnosed. By breaking down the self-defined living process into clear, manageable steps and providing personalized support, we make a more regulated life accessible to everyone. Everyone deserves to create a life where they are set up to thrive, but creating it isn't easy. Success requires clarity, dedication and the right guidance, all of which we provide.

How quickly can I expect to self-define my life using this process?

While the speed of implementation varies from person to person, our system is designed to significantly accelerate your process. By following our structured approach, many of our participants have been able to recreate their entire life within a matter of weeks or a few months, depending on their current commitments and situation. For a lot of people creating a life you don't need a vacation from can take as much as 3-5 years, but move toward what alignment looks like makes the journey much more acceptable.

Can this program help me if I have a busy schedule?

Yes, our program is crafted with flexibility in mind. The training materials, including the live Zoom calls, are accessible around your schedule, allowing you to progress at your own pace. This means you can integrate the writing process into your life, even with a busy schedule, making it practical and achievable to pursue your own aspirations.

What makes this different from other programs?

This program is distinct because it is led by Becca Lory Hector, an Autistic self-advocate, who brings her personal experience of living with a late-in-life Autism diagnosis at 36 into the training. This unique perspective offers authentic, lived insights that are often missing in other programs -- often run by allistics that not really understand Autistic struggles. Additionally, the course is tailored specifically to the needs of both social and emotional needs of Autistic individuals, focusing on practical, real-world strategies for a happy life. This combination of personal experience and targeted practical advice sets it apart from other autism-related programs.

What is the ultimate goal of completing this program?

The ultimate goal of our program is to help you creating and living a self-defined life and the advantages that this kind of life provides. Techniques for living a self-defined life will be discussed and encompass areas of both daily and interdependent living that usually present challenges as traditionally defined. You will hear the benefits of using wellness-based techniques, such as mindfulness and meditation, and the importance valuing your needs and preferences, all while learning how essential creating a life you don’t need a vacation from is for living a quality life as an autistic adult.
